I was born and bred at Zurich and lived there almost all my life until we moved into our old house in the country,
in the North-East, in spring 2004. We are at 1000 yards above sea-level. Here we have at last my workshop, our
office and our living quarters all under one roof.
I was eight years old when I had my first pocket knife; and ever since I never left the house without my knife, it
served me for all sorts of little chores. But I was trained to be a goldsmith and worked as a jeweller full-time for
about 30 years, creating high-class jewellery, before I took up knifemaking in 1985.
Apart from fixed-blade knives I soon started making folders, inventing a system of my own, then another, better
one, a Button-Lock system (Pat.Pend.), which is very easy-going and double-locking and takes up very little
space within the handle, so that I can give my folders any shape I like. So some of them are rather fancy, but
others are made to be carried in your pocket. Of course all my fancy folders are one-of-a-kinds.
I still create jewellery from time to time, including some knife-jewellery, especially necklaces with integrated
knives; these, too, are unique. And of course I still produce sheath knives, too - daggers or fighters.
I am a member of the American Knifemakers Guild, of the German and the Italian Guilds and of the Swiss
"Form Forum", a member organization of the International Crafts Council.
